Phoenix to Dark Phoenix

Biography

Jean was last daughter of a family doctor name Dr. John Grey. Her powers began to manifest itself when she witnessed her friend being accidentally hit by a car, she felt every emotion of her dying friend. Her Farther was recommended to see Professor Charles Xavier. When Charles visited and assessed the situation he realized the potential in Jean but she was too young to understand and learn how to control her gifts, so he had created psychic barriers and shields in her head until she was old enough to control her powers.

At first Jean was invited to join four other young mutants such as herself to form a new Super-Heroes team known as the X-men. They were Henry McCoy aka Beast, Robert Drake aka Iceman and Warren Kenneth Worthington III aka Archangel. When she first laid eyes Scott Slim Summers aka Cyclops, it was love at first sight. While the others were making her uncomfortable he kindly gave her a seat and introduced himself. Together these five teenagers grew up established themselves as adventurers, freedom fighters and protectors of those who cannot protect themselves others who are with powers and for people who fear and hate them. At a time Jean Grey left the X-men and pursued a career in modelling and Psychology. She also had a happy relationship with her long time love Cyclops who was still an active member and leader of the X-men.

It was apparently hard to believe that Professor X was killed and no one else but Jean Grey knew of his existence. He faked his own death to prevent the invasion of earth from an alien race known as the Znox. The next adventure would be the most significant in Jean Grey’s life. On a mission in space to save the lives of her fellow team members Alexander Summers aka Havok and Lorna Dane aka Polaris. After brutal battle with the villain Eric the Red Jean had made a desperate decision to pilot the shuttle from space into earth’s atmosphere. Despite Cyclops objections she still piloted the shuttle only using her telekinetic shielding to protect her from the radiation, guiding the shuttle to crash in Jamaica Bay in New York. All her fellow X-men survived as they surfaced in the bay from the sinking craft they were beginning to doubt Jean’s survival. Suddenly Jean surfaced, not as herself but as the Phoenix with a magnificent phenomenon and a resemblance as the actual Phoenix.

After a while with her fellow X-men and new members of the team such as Logan aka Wolverine, Kurt Wagner aka Nightcrawler, Ororo Munroe aka Storm, Peter Rasputin aka Colossus and Cyclops. The Phoenix has proven to be a good ally especially when the X-men found themselves in a battle to save the universe from a mad alien tyrant the Shi’ar Emperor D’Ken. His sister Lilandra Neramani travelled across the galaxy seeking Professor X’s and his X-men’s help in safe guarding the M’Kraan Crystal. After battling Dr. Trask and his Android replica of the X-men they allied themselves with space rebels called the Star-jammers. The X-men then battled and defeated the Imperial Guard and with help of the Phoenix Force were able to defeat the tyrant and sealed him in the M’Kraan Crystal leaving it and galaxy safe in the hands of new Empress Lilandra. Professor X choose to stay on the Shi’ar home world to learn more about the alien race.

After the X-men returned to earth they were caught in a battle to help stop an ally Moira MacTaggart’s son Kevin who was considered mad and assumed the name Proteus. He was formidable and powerful but the X-men had no choice but to end his life. After recovering and returning from Muir Island to their Headquarters in Salem Centre New York. The team was surprised to see Professor X prepared and ready lead the team again. He informed the team that he had found two new potential X-men, Katherine Pryde aka Shadowcat and Alison Blair aka Dazzler. What the team didn’t realized that they were compromised and have been infiltrated. The X-men broken into two teams Cyclops, Nightcrawler and Phoenix travelled to the last location where Dazzler who is a singer was to perform and Storm, Colossus, Wolverine and Professor X went Katherine Pryde’s home in Chicago to convince her parents to join his school for the gifted. What they didn’t know that they been scooped by villainess Emma Frost aka White Queen. While the Professor was having a meeting with Katy’s parents. Storm, Wolverine and Colossus took her to a small local Dinah to reassure her that they were mutants too, but they were ambushed by agents that knew the limitations of their powers only Shadowcat escaped. Cyclops, Nightcrawler and Phoenix went to a disco to find Dazzler they to encountered agents with armour that anticipated their powers but they defeated them with the help of Dazzler. Shadowcat followed the agents with the captive X-men to the hideout of the White Queen. With their powers neutralized they were helpless and the White Queen wanted to use them for their experiments for the secret organization called the Inner Circle. Shadowcat infiltrated her base and was able to make contact with Storm. Storm gave her an emergency number to call the second team at the disco and alert them of their situation. In panic Shadowcat eluded the remaining X-men not knowing who they were. Phoenix was able to calm her down reassured that they were there to help and read her mind about the threat. The X-men with the help of Dazzler entered the base with the disguise of being agents who were sent by the White Queen to abduct Shadowcat. Soon they were in the base and fought their way to the captive X-men. They were able to free Colossus and Wolverine with the help of Shadowcat. Phoenix confronted the White Queen who boosted that she was a match for the Phoenix but she proved the White Queen wrong when she defeated her and rescued Storm.

During the rescue Storm witnessed the power of the Phoenix and its merciless nature. She and Cyclops became concern for Jean and how the Phoenix Force is affecting her. They witnessed this when Jean used her psychic powers to manipulate Mr. Pryde, Shadowcat father when he retaliated about the previous incident at the Dinah. Cyclops realizing that the situation was dire and  decided to not return to the X-Mansion and instead visit teammate and friend Warren Worthington III aka Archangel at his Colorado Retreat. When the X-men reached the Retreat Cyclops asked to speak Archangel alone. Using his avian mutant abilities Archangel able fly Cyclops to a remote part of the Colorado Desert. Cyclops began to debate what they discovered about the Hellfire Club in which Archangel was a member. What Cyclops didn’t count on that Phoenix followed them. She asked Archangel to give her and Cyclops some time alone. She encouraged Scott Summers to take off his glasses and using her psychic abilities she was able to stop Scott’s mutant abilities his optic blast to see his true eyes and was the only one that ever did.

The X-men decided to infiltrate Hellfire Club, but they didn’t realize that they were heading into a trap. Jason Wyngarde aka Mastermind a former adversary of the X-men was secretly manipulating Jean’s mind.  When they entered the Hellfire Mansion in New York they didn’t used their original costumes (uniforms) in fact they all had invites for a regular gathering or ball all thanks to Warren Worthington III who was a member. But the Inner Circle anticipated this infiltration and one by one each of the X-men were captured.

Mastermind was using his powers to create illusions to make Jean believe that she was Seventeenth Century early American Settler. All her fellow X-men witness her becoming the new Black Queen of the Inner Circle. The Inner Circle consists of Sebastian Shaw who can absorb any powers focused upon, in which enhance his strength and agility.  The obnoxious Harry Leland who the ability to increase weight of any object and the arrogant Donald Pierce who was a cyborg in some sense his cybernetics can adapt to any part of his body. Harry Leland underestimated one of the X-men Wolverine who managed to survive his first attack and was beginning to work his way up to where the X-men were being held captured. Meanwhile Cyclops tried an alternate solution to the X-men’s predicament he planned to use his psychic rapport (bond) to reach Jean’s mind. When they had a night to themselves previously in Colorado the couple forged a psychic bond so strong nobody can touch it. That is what he thought until Jason Wyngarde intercepted their link in Jeans mind. He used his powers of allusion to create a sword duel on a Seventeenth Century background. They both fought viciously but sadly Scott failed he was thought be dead, but something strange happened. Cyclops began to recover from his injury. It is thought if your mind is injured or killed in the Astral Plane your body will follow but Cyclops survived Wyngarde’s attempted to kill him. Suddenly Wolverine burst into the room Mastermind ordered the Black Queen to kill Wolverine, but a part of Jean was still there and was able release Cyclops restraint and he took the opportunity to release the other X-men this time they didn’t underestimate the Inner Circle. They altered the use and control of their powers and was able to defeat the Inner Circle. Using the knowledge of Hellfire Mansion they were able to use secret doorways and passage in their mansion to escape.

In a vain attempted to regain control of the Phoenix Jason Wyngarde tried to trick her again. But it was far too late when the Black Queen was able to break free from his illusion reveal true form not the rich and handsome Jason Wyngarde but the old an ugly Mastermind. He had technology that can enter the mind of Phoenix making it easy to enter her mind slowly create illusions in her mind without using telepathy. After she obtained this knowledge from Mastermind she made him catatonic. Jean re-joined the rest of the X-men to escape the Mansion before the authorities came they went to Central Park where the Blackbird Jet was waiting. But it was too late again her fellow X-men bore witness to the Black Queen turned into the Dark Phoenix. Without mercy or even compassion she turned on the X-men destroying the Blackbird Jet in mid-air. Cruelly attacking the only man she has ever loved. Soon and without warning the Phoenix blasted leaving Earth’s atmosphere and soon our Solar System without acknowledgement and guilt over what she had done.

All of the X-men’s fellow heroes and allies sensed a large energy source leaving Earth. Even at the Avengers mansion the former X-man Henry Mc. Coy aka Beast who was an Avenger at the time was on monitor duty for any threats. When he arrived on the scene seeing all his fellow X-men unconscious and defeated made him even more concerned. He began to give the X-men medical treatment and when they recovered escorted them in Quinn Jet back to their hidden base at the mansion in Salem Centre upstate New York.  There began to recover from their battle and brief their shocked ally of the situation.

When the X-men were on the mission at the Hellfire club in New York. Professor Charles Xavier took the opportunity to study Jean’s new manifestation of power. He contacted friend and long-time ally Moira MacTaggart he gave her all details records assess. Like Cyclops and Storm he was worried that Jean’s powers were beyond her control. It was exactly as he feared Moira reported that her powers evolving too fast for Jean to control it and if it continues Jean might go insane and that she had capability to destroy the world.

While the X-men were recovering they had consider the inevitable to try to stop the Phoenix without harming their dear comrade. Beast with the information he was given realized that the only way to stop the Phoenix was to attack at its vulnerable spot its mind. In a way not harm Jean but to prevent her from harming herself and others. Beast designed a gadget that will scramble Jeans mind to leave the Phoenix vulnerable enough for the X-men deal with Phoenix and prevent her from harming herself and others. The plan was in motion. While the other X-men were preparing for the mission Cyclops could still sense Jean through their psychic bond and was able to anticipate not the Phoenix but Jean’s next move.

Unaware to the X-men deep in space the Phoenix entered and alien Solar System of a peaceful race of aliens called D’Bari. Suddenly the Phoenix entered the Sun of the system and began to feed on the star and it has gone Super Nova whipping out the D’Bari race in just seconds. A Shi’ar Imperial Battle Cruiser and its captain Lord Juber had witnessed the event choose to investigate. By his surprise he saw the entity that was responsible for the genocide.  He ordered the ship to prepare for battle and they opened fire on the entity. They realised that they out matched by the Phoenix when she crippled the ship with ease. In a last minute attempt to warn the Shi’ar home world of the danger. When Shi’ar Empress Lilandra Neramani was aware of the situation by her surprise through the video feed she recognised the cruelty and power of the Phoenix force and at the same time witnessed the death of her friend and close ally Lord Juber. With her counsel and her Lord Chamberlain who also witnessed the event she began to make preparations to confront the X-men.

Instead of the Phoenix Jean Grey longing for her love Cyclops returned to Earth after the incident. She wanted to be around familiar surroundings. Jean choose to visit the place where she grew up fifty miles from the X-Mansion in Annandale on Hudson New York. Jean visited and entered her family’s house and surprised her father who at first thought she was an intruder. When he realised it was Jean he was happy to he called his wife Jean’s mother and her sister Sarah.  Again her powers were out of her control and she began to read her mother and sister’s minds and began to threaten her family members. Finally the X-men arrived, Storm used her powers to create fog to draw her out of the house. Nightcrawler used his powers teleport and place the device on her head. Wolverine held her down to her from hurting herself and others while Beast from a distance tried operate the device but he and Wolverine realised that the device wasn’t working her mind was too powerful for the device. Wolverine realised that he had to kill Jean to stop her and she begged to do it, but the Phoenix regained and was able to subdue the almost whole but for one last time Cyclops tries to reach her and he succeeds.

While Jean was distracted with Scott, Professor Charles Xavier arrived on the scene attacked Jeans mind. The Phoenix returned attack and unleashed her primal force but she under estimated the most powerful psychic (telepath) on the planet and Charles Xavier was able subdue the Phoenix. Jean was back to herself for the time. Storm and the other X-men was surprised that the Professor and Archangel arrived conveniently from Colorado. They also have deal with Dr. Grey Jean’s unhappy father who witnessed the event.  Suddenly all the relief had ended when the X-men were teleported right in front him.

X-men were teleported unto Shi’ar Imperial Ship in space. They were confronted by Shi’ar Empress Lilandra and her counsel. It was such a significant event that the alien known as the Watcher aka Uatu who records great through time and space. Lilandra began to inform the X-men that the Phoenix is a threat because it had destroyed an entire alien civilisation called the D’Bari and that it feeds on stars. The alien Empire of the Skrull and the Supreme Intelligence of the Kree all agreed that the Phoenix is a threat. Shocked by the information the Professor and the X-men tried to reassure Lilandra that they dealt with Phoenix despite the fact the Phoenix committed genocide. Some of them couldn’t believe it even Jean began to doubt herself that she could ever be capable of such a thing. Knowing this they all decided to stand by Jean’s side despite what Jean has done. Knowing this Lilandra ordered her guards to attack but before they can go through with the order the Professor challenged Lilandra to Arin’nn Haelar an ancient Shi’ar duel of Honour for Jean’s life.

Lilandra bound by honour accepted the duel but she cautioned the X-men that she has to seek approval by the Kree and the Skrull. When she went in closed counsel room. Through Insta-Link Lilandra contacted the leaders of two ancient alien races. Rk’lll Empress of Skrulls and the Supreme Intelligence of the Kree agreed only if their representatives Raksor of Skrulls and the Kree centurion and Scientist Captain Marvell. Shi’ar Majestrix Lilandra had assure them that X-men will not win.

When the meeting was over Lilandra informed the Professor Charles Xavier and the X-men that they have their duel but they will be given a day to rest and recover. Among the X-men each one of them had their doubts and couldn’t believe that Jean or the Phoenix is capable of such. Jean took it upon herself to order her old uniform. When she confronted Cyclops he tried reassure her that he and the X-men will do whatever it takes to save her and she warned him if he failed the cost will be the destruction of the entire of the Galaxy. All the X-men prepared for the inevitable and were determined more than ever to save their friend’s life.

The next morning all the X-men gathered and were ready. Lilandra announced that they were about to challenge Gladiator and the Imperial Guard. The X-men were beamed down to and abandoned ancient civilisation called the Blue side of the Moon Beast said like the Savage Land in Antarctica its one civilisations hidden on Earth or in other words the dark side of the Moon. Jean began to sense their assailants with her psychic powers. Cyclops and the X-men began to their strategy divide and each of them up and take them out one at a time. X-men fought bravely valiantly but began to underestimate each of the Imperial Guard members. Also they didn’t understand the terrain properly. Soon Jean using her psychic powers and began to realise that Cyclops and her were the only ones left.   She warn him and they decided hide to figure out a new strategy or bide some time. They found a shallow room and Jean used her telekinetic powers to cover the entrance with dust. Both of them said which they thought were there last words:-

“There’s so much I want to say to you—so much that I feel. I… don’t have the words!”

Jean replied:-

“Where I’m concerned, it’s the thought that counts. And yours – like you – are beautiful!”

Jean Grey and Cyclops surfaced and began fight as though it was their last but failed. And the unthinkable has happened the Phoenix broke free. It unleashed its full power defeating Gladiator and the Imperial Guard. Professor X sensing everything he revived the fallen X-men with his psychic powers. Gladiator and the Imperial Guard and the X-men united to stop the Phoenix brutally and Jean Grey surfaced and began run when Cyclops pursued her she used her powers to keep him and bay. He begged her stop but it was too late unable to stop the Phoenix herself she knew in her weaken state she destroy both the Phoenix and herself committed suicide with an old and hidden alien ray cannon and she used it to disintegrate herself right in front of Cyclops eyes. Her last words to him were:-

“The choice was never yours to begin with. You see Scott? I told you. Jean to Phoenix to Dark Phoenix- a progression as inevitable as death!”

“You of all people should know how I feel, through the psionic rapport we share!”

“I’m scared, Scott. I’m hanging on by my fingernails. I can feel the Phoenix within me taking over. Part of me… welcomes it!”

“You want me to fight? I have I am- with all my strength!”

“But I can’t forget that I killed an entire world- Five billion people- as casually as unthinkingly, as you would crumple a piece of paper. I want no more deaths on my conscience!”

 “Your way, I’d have to stay completely in control of in control of myself every second of every day for the rest of my immortal life!

“… If even one more person died at my hands…!”
